How Visualising Your Business Could Change Everything

One day, you should be able to sit back, look at your business and say, “This was my dream, now turned into reality.”

Let me ask you a question:
“When you think about your business in its final, successful form, what do you see?”

If you’re struggling to answer that, how can you ever achieve it?

A mentor once told me, “If you can’t visualise it, you can’t achieve it.”

Over the past 15 years, I’ve seen hundreds of businesses that couldn’t answer this question.

They spent years just working in the business, never reaching the success they were aiming for—because they never clearly defined it.

Many ended up burnt out, frustrated, and eventually closed their doors.

Don’t let that happen to you. I’ll share a framework at the end to help you define your vision clearly, so you can print it, stick it up on your wall, and visualise it every few days.

One of the most important things for success for your business, is having a very clearly defined vision. And I don’t just mean a fluffy vision statement that sounds good on a website.

I’m talking about where you actually want to see your business in the future.

What does it have to become? For example, do you want to be the biggest brand in the UK, or do you want to be known for being affordable or a luxury service?

Maybe when you’re just starting out, it’s not the most important question, and that’s fine.

But at some point, you’ve got to figure out exactly where you want your business to go.

Without that, you’ll keep working in your business, trying to grow it, but without a real clue as to what success looks like for you.

You’ll have no exit strategy. No clear point where you can look at your business and say, “Yes, this is what I wanted it to be.”

One day, you should be able to sit back and look at your business and say, ‘This was my dream now turned into reality.’

Without a clear vision, it’s easy to get lost in the day-to-day tasks.

You’ll find yourself doing tasks that keep you busy but don’t move your business forward towards your dream.

But when you have a vision, you can constantly check back and make sure your actions are aligned with your goals. Instead of drifting, you’ll have a clear direction.

Because when you’re working day-to-day, it’s so easy to get sidetracked by tasks that don’t move your business forward.

A well-defined vision gives you direction, helps you realign when you get off course, and ensures you’re doing the things that actually push your business to where you want it to be.

I want you to block out a couple of hours and find a quiet place. Leave all your worries and problems outside the room.

You need to relax and get into a state where you can daydream just like you did when you were a child.

You should be in a relaxed and positive state. A place where you can dream and think that anything is possible. And then answer the questions below.

But do not make it logical. Do not overthink it. Don’t ask yourself if it’s possible or not. Allow yourself to dream freely and express yourself.

Here are a few questions you should answer to create your clear vision. You can add your questions.

  1. What will my business look like when it’s successful?
    • Think beyond just the numbers. What will the brand, the culture, and the overall vibe of the business be like?
  2. What will others say about my business?
    • Will you be known for quality, affordability, customer service, or innovation?
  3. What kind of clients will I have?
    • Are you going after luxury clients, or do you want to serve a broader market? Who will you be working with daily?
  4. How much revenue do I want to generate?
    • Get specific. What will your profit margins look like? What financial goals will signal that you’ve ‘made it’?
  5. What kind of impact will my business have?
    • Are you looking to just make money, or do you want to create a positive impact in your industry or community?
  6. What will my business stand for?
    • Values are important. What principles will guide your business? How do you want to be perceived in the marketplace?

Taking the time to answer these questions will give you a clear roadmap to work from.

Write it down, print it and visualise it every few days if not daily.

Don’t just read it, visualise and feel it. Even if only for a few minutes a day.

With that in place, you can avoid getting lost in the day-to-day grind and make sure every step is taking you towards your ultimate goal.
